Take care of your candle and your candle will take care of you
Candle Care Guide
Taking good care of your candles ensures a longer-lasting, safer, and more enjoyable experience. Follow these simple tips to make the most of your Wick & Whiff candles:
1. Trim the Wick
Before lighting, always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. A shorter wick creates a cleaner, safer burn with less smoke and minimizes soot build-up.
2. First Burn Matters
On the first burn, allow the wax to melt evenly across the entire surface to the edges. This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn for the life of your candle. For most candles, this takes 2-4 hours.
3. Burn Time Limits
Keep your candle lit for no more than 4 hours at a time. Allowing it to cool between burns helps maintain the fragrance and prevents overheating.
4. Avoid Drafts
Place your candle in a draft-free area to prevent uneven burning, excessive smoke, or flickering. Drafts can also make your candle burn faster.
5. Keep the Wax Pool Clean
Avoid dropping matches, wick trimmings, or debris into the wax pool, which can disrupt an even burn and create soot.
6. Safety First
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from anything flammable.
7. Extinguish Carefully
Use a snuffer or dip the wick in melted wax and straighten it to reduce smoke. Blowing out a candle can cause hot wax to splatter.
8. Recycle and Reuse
When only 1/2 inch of wax remains, it’s time to retire the candle. Reuse the container by cleaning out the remaining wax with warm soapy water.
